David first became interested in radio as an 11 year old
when his grand parents in London introduced him to Radio
Caroline in the spring of 1964. Radio Caroline
was the first of many "Pirate"
radio stations that played pop music all day long
to the United Kingdom from a ship anchored in the North Sea.
David fell in love with the dream of working for a radio station
that was youthful and played the latest pop music and promised
that he would someday achieve his ambition to do just that.
By early 1968 his impatience lead him to join with a bunch
of like minded 15 year olds to launch London's most successful
"Pirate" radio station, Radio
Jackie, broadcasting every Sunday from a studio built
in a friends bedroom.
Not being a very contentious student David left school with
no formal qualifications to join the army and spent the next
25 years serving around the world but never giving up the
opportunity to work as a volunteer on British
Forces Radio (BFBS) in Germany, BBC
Radio Surrey, Radio 210 in Reading and set up Punch
FM a charity radio station.
In 1993 on leaving the army, he freelanced as a travel news
presenter with 2
TEN FM and as a presenter and producer with BFBS,
taking a mobile radio station to broadcast to the British
troops of UNPROFOR in Bosnia.
1994 saw David presenting daily shows from BFBS in London
to army audiences across the world, being the Breakfast
DJ on XCEL FM and in 1995 working as the Breakfast
Show DJ in the Falkland
Islands deep in the South Atlantic Ocean.
In 1996 David left BFBS
to set up his own company specialising in setting up radio
stations serving "niche" audiences. However he left
in September 1998 to join SFOR
in Banja Luka to set up SFM, which re-branded as Oksigen FM
in April 2000.
The last 4 years have seen David fall in love with Bosnia
and this is reflected in his passion for helping the country
to get better. David can be heard every Sunday between 1900
and 2200 hours.
